Stell dir irgendeine Bewegung vor. – Und jetzt stell dir vor die gleiche Bewegung findet jeweils in unterschiedlichen Kontexten statt: in der Küche, im Museum, in der Kirche, beim Fußballspiel, beim Date, beim Arzt. Wie wirkt sich das Umfeld auf die Bedeutung der Geste aus? Und was passiert beim Transfer von Praktiken vom einen in den anderen Kontext? Was wird beispielsweise gepflegt, wenn Wellnessanwendungen in der Kunst zum Einsatz kommen? Was meinen wir, wenn wir davon sprechen, nicht von Händen sondern Werken der Popkultur berührt zu werden? Und wie verändern sich körperliche Erkenntnisse, wenn ich diese schriftlich festzuhalten versuche?
An den Critical Fridays steht der Körper als Medium künstlerischer und rituellen Praktiken im Fokus und das verkörperte Wissen wird zur Debatte gestellt. Eingeladene Kunst- und Care-Arbeiter*innen geben mit Performances, Workshops, Lesungen und Film-Screenings Einblick in ihre Körperarbeit oder künstlerische Praxis und bieten so den Einstieg in Reflexionen mit eingeladenen Kulturwissenschaftler*innen. Wir verstehen Körper und ihre rituellen, sexuellen, technischen und spielerischen Bewegungsabfolgen als Produkte sozialer, kultureller und historischer Prozesse. Das ermöglicht uns zu fragen, wie persönliches Empfinden geformt wird, welche kognitiven und viszeralen Reflexionen in künstlerischen Praktiken sichtbar werden oder wie Kunst-Performances und explorative Workshops gesellschaftliche Normen auf den Kopf stellen. Die partizipativen Veranstaltungen laden ein, sich auf spielerische Weise auf Embodiment einzulassen und das schöne Risiko einzugehen, sich mit anderen Erkenntnisformen auseinanderzusetzen.

Die Veranstaltungen der Critical Fridays wollen theoretisches und körperliches Wissen zusammenzubringen. Sie umfassen jeweils einen praktischen Teil (Workshop, Performance etc.) und einen reflexiven (Gespräch, Plenum, etc.). Wir philosophieren gemeinsam mit Werkzeugen feministischer und postkolonialer Theorien und klopfen die vorgestellten Körperpraktiken auf unhinterfragte Selbstverständlichkeiten, Stereotype, Ideologien und Machtstrukturen ab. Gleichzeitig möchten wir Texte und Diskurse der Kulturwissenschaften an der sinnlichen Ebene der Kunst- und Körpererfahrung festmachen, um sicher zu stellen, dass sich die Theorie nicht um sich selbst zu drehen beginnt. Embodiment wird also in jeder Veranstaltung auf andere Weise spielerisch erprobt, untersucht und diskutiert.
Kuratiert wird das Programm von Carla Peca, Mitbegründerin des Off-Space Kein Museum, Kuratorin und Kulturwissenschaftlerin sowie von Matís d’Arc, Gründer des Labels luhmen d’arc für die Entwicklung und Präsentation von Veranstaltungsformaten an den Schnittstellen von Körperarbeit, Spiel, Kunst und Performance und der Künstler*innenkollektiv- & Produktionsplattform iridescent matters.

Beata Absalon: Fake Therapie & Political Therapy
Beata Absalon führt in diese von der Künstlerin Valentina Desideri erfundene Praxis der Open-Source-Problembearbeitung ein. Die Rollen von Therapeut*in und Patient*in sind beliebig austauschbar. Keine Lösung, keine Heilung ist beabsichtigt. Die Sitzungen sind für diejenigen, die nicht repariert werden müssen oder wollen. Indem wir mit dem therapeutischen Set-up spielen, werden wir das Konzept der (Selbst-)Pflege neu überdenken. Anstatt Probleme vorschnell zu problematisieren, betrachten wir sie zunächst neugierig, wertfrei und wohlwollend als Potenzial, ungeahnte Gedanken und Bilder durch Berührung und Gespräch zu entfalten.

Michaël Reinhold: Anonyme Performer
Michaël Reinhold lädt seine im Laufe vieler Jahre entwickelten Kunstfiguren zu einem Gespräch ein. Mit präzisem Blick erfasst er gesellschaftliche Sprach- und Handlungsmuster, die Tabus und unbequeme Gefühle überdecken. Mal imitiert er diese, mal übertreibt er sie ins Unerträgliche. Seine Personas sind laut, verspielt, unberechenbar, manchmal mehr Tier, manchmal mehr Kind. Als Publikum sind wir frei ihren Gesprächen zuzuhören, mitzudenken oder uns einzumischen.

Dana Reina Téllez: Cuerpo Territorio – Decolonising Health & Selfcare
Dana Reina Téllez interessiert sich für den Körper als Territorium – als Ort an dem (De-)Kolonisierungprozesse stattfinden. Als braune PoC Migrantin, Künstlerin und Bodyworkerin in Europa kreiert sie Räume, in denen folgenden Fragen Sichtbarkeit verschafft werden soll: Welche kolonialistisch-rassistischen und kulturell angeeigneten Kontinuitäten werden in den Feldern von Körperarbeit, Wellness und Gesundheit weiter geübt und verewigt? Inwieweit sind Körper dadurch in Beschlag genommen und wie könnte in einer Bewegung von In- zu Exkorporation eine Befreiung durch die eigene Körperlichkeit aussehen?

Critical Friday on a Sunday: Aftermath of a Porn Film Festival
Was lösen die Kunstfilme des Porny Days Filmfestivals aus? Wieviel Sex verträgt die Kunst? Und wie sprechen wir über Bilder, die mit Sehgewohnheiten und Konventionen von Sexualität brechen? Am Sonntagnachmittag nach der sagenumwobenen Party des Porny Days Filmfestivals, nehmen wir uns Zeit die Erfahrungen des Festivals zu reflektieren. Dafür laden wir Menschen mit Hintergrund in Ästhetik, Kulturwissenschaft und Kulturproduktion ein das Porny Days Film Festival zu besuchen und ihre Festival-Erlebnisse mit uns zu teilen.

Shantala Hummler & Thomas Traupmann: Passionate Fiction – Literarische Pornologie
Shantala Hummler und Thomas Traupmann lassen pornographische Literatur (vor)lesen und laden ein, deren poetische Verfahren genauer zu untersuchen: Wie metaphorisch darf oder wie explizit muss literarische Pornographie sein? Welcher Mittel bedient sie sich, um uns Leser*innen zu affizieren? Wie drastisch oder obszön sind diese Texte? Versuchen sie gar die Grenze des Zumutbaren zu überschreiten? Die Geschichte der modernen Pornographie soll dabei auch als eine genuin literarische Geschichte sichtbar gemacht werden. Gemeinsam wollen wir über die Aktualität sowie die Traditionslinien von zeitgenössischen Inszenierungen des Pornographischen nachdenken. Auf diesem Wege möchten wir Schreibweisen, Erzählformen und Figurationen, aber auch die politische Qualität des Pornographischen in der Literatur ergründen.

Ayoto Ataraxia: Sexuelle Befreiung und andere Zwänge
Fotograf, Podcaster, Autor und Filmemacher Ayoto Ataraxia porträtiert in seinem Film «My Film with Andrei, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Document a Sex Party» eine Gruppe junger Leute aus dem Umfeld einer hedonistischen, sex-positiven Bewegung Berlins, die anlässlich des Geburtstags ihres Freundes Andrei eine Orgie organisieren. Sehen werden wir die Orgie in diesem Film nicht. Im Gespräch mit Regisseur Ataraxia wollen wir über neue Zwänge von sexueller Befreiung sprechen, über sein Zusammenleben mit den Protagonisten, das gewonnene Vertrauen, den distanzierte Blick seines Films, sowie über die Darstellbarkeit einer Orgie und deren Relevanz.

Sophie Wennerscheid: Sex Machina – Zur Zukunft des Begehrens
Haben technologische Spielzeuge, Apparate, Softwares und Apps unser Begehren verändert? Gemeinsam mit der Kulturwissenschaftlerin Sophie Wennerscheid, schauen wir uns diese Technik-Mensch Beziehungen genauer an. Wie werden Interaktionen zwischen Menschen und technischen Objekten in Film und Literatur dargestellt, welche Handlungsmacht sprechen wir ihnen zu? Verstehen wir Sexualität als Kulturtechnik, muss diese nicht ausschliesslich zwischen Menschen stattfinden, sondern schliesst deren technologischen Formen mit ein.

An event series by Carla Peca & Matís d'Arc at serrat(u)s bodywork studio in Zurich
Imagine any movement. - And now imagine that the same movement takes place in different contexts: in the kitchen, in the museum, in church, at a soccer game, on a date, at the doctor's office. How does the environment affect the meaning of the gesture? And what happens when practices are transferred from one context to another? For example, what is cultivated when wellness practices are used in the arts? What do we mean when we talk about being touched not by hands but works of pop culture? And how do bodily insights change when I try to capture them in writing?
Critical Fridays will focus on the body as a medium of artistic and ritual practices, and embodied knowledge will be open to debate. Invited art and care workers* provide insight into their body work or artistic practice through performances, workshops, readings, and film screenings, offering an entry point into reflections with invited cultural scholars*. We understand bodies and their ritual, sexual, technical and playful movement sequences as products of social, cultural and historical processes. This allows us to ask how personal sensibilities are shaped, which cognitive and visceral reflections become visible in artistic practices, or how art performances and explorative workshops turn social norms upside down. The participatory Events invite you to engage with embodiment in a playful way and take the beautiful risk of engaging with other forms of cognition.
Critical Fridays events aim to bring together theoretical and corporeal knowledge. They each include a practical part (workshop, performance, etc.) and a reflexive one (conversation, plenary, etc.). We philosophize together with tools of feminist and postcolonial theories and tap the presented body practices for unquestioned self-evident facts, stereotypes, ideologies and power structures. At the same time, we want to attach texts and discourses of cultural studies to the sensual level of art and body experience to make sure that theory does not start to revolve around itself. Embodiment will thus be playfully tested, explored and discussed in a different way in each event.
The program is curated by Carla Peca, co-founder of Off-Space Kein Museum, curator and cultural scientist, and by Matís d'Arc, founder of the label luhmen d 'arc for the development and presentation of event formats at the intersection of bodywork, play, art and performance, and the artists' collective & production platform iridescent matters.

Beata Absalon: Fake Therapy & Political Therapy
Beata Absalon introduces this practice of open source problem solving invented by the artist Valentina Desideri. The roles of therapist and patient are arbitrarily interchangeable. No solution, no cure is intended. The sessions are for those who do not need or want to be fixed. By playing with the therapeutic set-up, we will rethink the concept of (self)care. Rather than rashly problematizing issues, we first view them curiously, non-judgmentally, and benevolently as potential to unfold unimagined thoughts and images through touch and conversation.

Michaël Reinhold: Anonymous Performer
Michaël Reinhold invites his art figures, developed over the course of many years, to a conversation. With a precise eye, he captures social patterns of speech and action that cover up taboos and uncomfortable feelings. Sometimes he imitates them, sometimes he exaggerates them to the unbearable. His personas are loud, playful, unpredictable, sometimes more animal, sometimes more child. As an audience, we are free to listen to their conversations, to think along with them, or to interfere.

Dana Reina Téllez: Cuerpo Territorio - Decolonising Health & Selfcare
Dana Reina Téllez is interested in the body as territory - as a place where (de)colonization processes take place. As a brown PoC migrant, artist and bodyworker in Europe, she creates spaces in which the following questions are to be made visible: What colonialist-racist and culturally appropriated continuities continue to be practiced and perpetuated in the fields of bodywork, wellness, and health? To what extent are bodies thereby appropriated and what might liberation through one's own corporeality look like in a movement from incorporation to excorporation?

What do the art films of the Porny Days Film Festival trigger? How much sex can art take? And how do we talk about images that break with viewing habits and conventions of sexuality? On Sunday afternoon after the legendary party of the Porny Days Film Festival, we will take time to reflect on the experience of the festival. For this we invite people with backgrounds in aesthetics, cultural studies and cultural production to visit the Porny Days Film Festival and share their festival experiences with us.

Shantala Hummler & Thomas Traupmann: Passionate Fiction - Literary Pornology
Shantala Hummler and Thomas Traupmann have pornographic literature read (aloud) and invite us to examine its poetic procedures more closely: How metaphorical may or how explicit must literary pornography be? What means does it use to affect us readers? How drastic or obscene are these texts? Do they even try to exceed the limits of what is acceptable? The history of modern pornography will also be made visible as a genuinely literary history. Together we want to reflect on the topicality as well as the lines of tradition of contemporary stagings of the pornographic. In this way, we would like to explore modes of writing, narrative forms and figurations, but also the political quality of the pornographic in literature.

Ayoto Ataraxia: Sexual Liberation and Other Compulsions
Ayoto Ataraxia's film "My Film with Andrei, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Document a Sex Party" portrays a group of young people from a hedonistic, sex-positive movement in Berlin who organize an orgy on the occasion of their friend Andrei's birthday. We will not see the orgy in this film. In conversation with director Ataraxia we want to talk about new constraints of sexual liberation, about his cohabitation with the protagonists, the trust gained, the distanced view of his film, as well as about the representability of an orgy and its relevance.

Sophie Wennerscheid: Sex Machina – On the Future of Desire
Have technological toys, devices, softwares and apps changed our desire? Together with the cultural scientist Sophie Wennerscheid, we will take a closer look at these technology-human relationships. How are interactions between humans and technical objects portrayed in film and literature, what agency do we attribute to them? If we understand sexuality as a cultural technique, it does not have to take place exclusively between humans, but includes their technological forms.
